When we headed west last fall we were super stoked for the opportunity to get some good waves. While visiting with
Surftech’s Ty Zulim, he made us an offer we couldn’t refuse. Our schedule was packed for the trip, but we managed to squeeze in a morning session with Ty at Dog Patch. It was our first experience with the new
Laird Surf Series.
This board surfed like a dream on the big softies at Dog Patch. The thin tail bites nicely in the waves making turning and trimming as smooth as silk. It has an amazing control that helps even novice surfers get lasting rides. The board was shaped by Bob Pearson with guidance from the one and only Laird Hamilton.
Between sets we were able get a good feel for the boards surprising flat water paddling ability. For anyone who loves a classic longboard feel but wants a good board for paddling flats, this just might be it. It also comes in an
11’ model for larger surfers or for someone who will be doing more flatwater exploring.
