Here at Paddleboard Specialists we can’t get enough of SUP. We find ourselves traveling a ton with inflatable SUP stand up paddle boards and wanted to experience a primitive trip by paddle board. We chose Alaska’s Noatak river for its remote location, spectacular expansive river valleys, abundance of wildlife including grizzly bears, dall sheep, musk ox, a salmon run in the river and more. We want to thank our guides Ken and Jeff and the rest of our group who did the trip in folding canoes for indulging us as this river had never been experienced on via paddle boarding before. Here is a short slide show and video showing what it’s like paddling on 42 degree water and in current and rapids up to almost class III. Unfortunately we do not have video of the largest rapid we paddled through!
Inflatable stand up paddle boards have improved dramatically in quality and stiffness over the past 2 years. Inflatable SUP’s are designed for the full range of uses including cruising, touring, wave riding, river running and racing. All come packaged with a travel bag and pump with pressure gauge so they are easy to put in your trunk or check on an airplane. There is nothing more wonderful than arriving at a remote spot that you could not possibly go to with a regular paddle board, pump up your inflatable and have a wonderful time on the water.
Inflatable SUP paddle boards are easy to store, can take a tremendous beating without being damaged and are super easy to transport too!
If you are curious about inflatable SUP paddle boards we have extensive experience testing and using them ourselves from small waves on Maui to touring in Puerto Rico to last summer’s Alaska river trip as well as right on our local lake here in Madison, Wisconsin. Check out our selection of
