What do you get when you combine one of the most fun and challenging paddle events with the Midwest Standup Paddle Festival? You get the biggest paddle celebration in the country!
The 36th annual Isthmus Paddle & Portage returns Saturday, July 18, 2015. This year, Paddle & Portage has merged with Paddleboard Specialists Midwest Standup Paddle Festival which brings together hundreds of stand up paddleboarders to participate in the event and share their knowledge of SUP here in Madison. Locally owned Paddleboard Specialists is the Midwest's largest stand up paddle board retailer and has been actively growing SUP since 2006. As the sport of paddleboarding has grown in the Midwest, canoers and kayakers will now formally be joined by standup paddleboarders creating a celebration of paddle like no other.
The crazy fun-filled weekend kicks off at Olin Park Friday evening. Paddlers and the general public are invited for before the race bib pick-up and to stick around for a beer, enjoy Hawaiian music with Mal-O-Dua. Enjoy SUP Gear Demos with some of the best stand up paddle gear on the planet, talk to factory reps and participate in the on the water clinics. The schedule includes Pro clinics for Elite paddlers sponsored by Paddleboard Specialists, Learn to SUP for beginners and SUP Yoga sponsored by Brittingham Boats.

Saturday's race begins at James Madison Park with a 1.5-mile paddle on Lake Mendota, followed by a 1-mile portage (Have your friends help you carry your board, use a strap or a wheeled device etc so the portage is fun not work!) around the Capitol past the Dane County Farmers' Market, before heading to Law Park and the final 1.5-mile paddle across Lake Monona to the finish line at Olin Park. Racers and spectators are invited to participate in SUP lessons, SUP YOGA, Gear Demos and to attend the post-race party at Olin Park for live music, food, craft brews and the 2015 Paddle & Portage awards ceremony. 7am: canoe, kayak and SUP drop off begins at James Madison Park
9am: The Race begins with the Elite Racing Waves followed by waves of canoes, kayaks and SUP boards.
11am Post race party at Olin Park featuring music by Natty Nation, award ceremony, food for racers and spectators, (racers receive free food) craft beer available for purchase(racers receive one free beer)
