On Saturday a couple of us decided to head out to the Cherokee Marsh, just blocks from our shop. We were out testing some new adjustable stand up paddles
, from QuickBlade
. We were surrounded by warm sun, migrating water fowl and good amounts of ice cover. Our boards had to punch through the a very thin layer of ice from the low temps the previous night. We could clearly see spring on the horizon. It was one of those days that remind us why having four distinct seasons keeps us in the Midwest. If you can endure the winter months it makes the first warm days of spring that much sweeter.
As we longed for warmer days, open water and waves
, a fellow outdoor enthusiast held on to the last of the cold. The skier was just yards away on the ice and was skiing along side of us. We stopped and talked with our cross-country skiing friend and discussed stand up paddleboarding
for a bit. We then paddled side by side with him for a little while, then parted ways. It was amazing to see people enjoying the water in two of its physical states, but sharing the same state of mind. There really is more than one way to walk on the water.
